The term combination Packaging refers to a packaging used that has one or more inner packagings within an approved outer packaging. For example, the Air Sea Code 570 – a Biotransporter for transporting infectious substances.
The complete Biotransporter packaging would likely consist of the following components:
– Biotube containing dangerous goods
– Biojar (to securely contain the biotubes used)
– Fibreboard outer packaging
The alternative to a combination packaging solution would be a single packaging – for example, a UN-approved steel drum. See examples of UN-approved steel drums here.
