Introducing Our Test Lab

Our UN packaging testing laboratory is an official UKAS accredited Testing Laboratory No 28781 Accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017.  We are a VCA approved testing facility who can test various UN packaging to prove its capability meets the strict testing requirements of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods Model Regulations.

As an approved testing facility, we work closely with the VCA Dangerous Goods Office (DGO), the UK’s authority for the issue of packaging performance certificates and approval marks.  After successful testing of your package, we send a detailed test report to the VCA DGO to review and issue a packaging performance certificate and UN mark.

We offer a range of services from; full-service offering including product design, UN testing and manufacturing, to UN certification revalidation.  In addition, we can also conduct capability testing for items such as Limited Quantity packaging.

Testing Services We Offer:

Packaging Testing for UN Approval

We can test your packaging designs. Simply send us your packaging and we’ll test it, upon successful testing, we’ll liaise with the VCA and manage the approval process for you.

Custom Made Packaging Testing

We can design, develop, test, coordinate UN certification, manufacture and provide ongoing maintenance of UN certification. We will manage the entire packaging design, approval and production process for you, including stock holding options.

Revalidation Testing Services

Every 5 years UN approved packaging needs revalidating. Simply send us your UN Approved Packaging and we can conduct specification checks on your packaging and re-issue of UN certification.

Capability Testing

We can conduct testing where UN approval is not required, but capability may be required, such as Limited Quantities. Simply send us your packaging and we’ll do the rest.

What is UKAS accreditation?

UKAS Accreditation is the formal recognition that an organisation is competent to perform specific processes, activities, or tasks in a reliable, credible and accurate manner.

It demonstrates our commitment to quality and service improvement and delivers confidence in report, certificates and conformity statements. Processes and services are tested, inspected and certified against national & international standards, accreditation ensures these standards are met.

Who are the VCA?

The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) is the designated UK national authority for approving new road vehicles, agricultural tractors, off-road vehicles and components. In relation to Packaging, within the VCA sits the VCA Dangerous Goods Office (DGO), who are responsible for issuing certificates of packaging performance and approval marks.

How long does the testing and certification take?

This can vary depending on the packaging being tested, the number of samples required and the preparation and filling of packages if a variety of different inners or articles are to be tested. Our team will provide details upon review of your test requirements.

Following testing if successful, we issue a report to the VCA DGO who review and issue the certificate of packaging performance and approval mark, usually this takes around 21 days from receipt, with a fast track service available upon request.

How long is my certification valid for?

UN certification is valid for 5 years, you must get your packaging revalidated every 5 years in order to maintain UN certification.

What is meant by revalidation testing?

This is to ensure a specification check is conducted to ascertain whether the packaging is still being manufactured to the exact same specification as per the UN certification. Occasionally within the 5 years manufacturers change the spec of the material or other element of the packaging, which can compromise the integrity of the packaging and lead to it being invalidated.

What is the custom-made service you offer?

If you need a bespoke packaging solution creating we can, design, develop, test, coordinate UN certification, manufacture and provide ongoing maintenance of UN certification. We will manage the entire packaging design and approval process for you and offer where required stock holding solutions.
